Why most young people are unhappy

There are several benefits to the social media. We are more connected than ever before. We could connect with any one of our friends whenever we want. If they don’t have an Instagram, no problem! We could find their snap, facebook or track them down on tinder. We can show appreciation, jokes and share culture. It has become the hub of news for young people, which is a whole separate topic. Regardless, we could be updated within minutes of any major world event. We are more connected to the world and “friends” than any time before in history.

There are also several cons that come with the social media and new technology. We are all human and experience the same human emotions. Some that we haven’t even noticed. Feelings that creep into our life slowly. The more time we spend with our thumbs on the screen, the less aware we become.

He has become more dissatisfies more than ever before. We become un-content with our current situation and don’t even know why.

Luckily for us, there is the scientist. Scientists have a study that put college student online to facebook for 30 min. The one thing the college students felt was more envious.

While we are sitting in our pj’s barely taking our eye booger out, we see one of our “friends” traveling the world riding around in Ferraris through the swiss alps in a beautiful relationship with a model. Its natural feel this type of envy when you look at your place and think about how you’re not up to much, and it feels like your in a life cycle. You are in the mundane process of trying to reach your goals and get to the next level. There is no excitement in this.

As Americans, we have the most wealth per capita in the world. How have we become so dissatisfied? We have become discontent with our circumstances, our material and wealth. HOW?! People would consider indoor plumbing life-changing! We have a house just for our car, called a garage. We can control the temperature of our house through our phone! We can move lever and water comes out. Imagine telling this to someone who is just trying to survive in a little metal shack.
Instead of comparing ourselves, the number of likes and followers we need to focus on the present moment. We are in a time where you can literally measure popularity. We can be with several people and alone together at the same time! Comparing others lives highlights with our behind the scenes is obviously not healthy. Two people can be in deep envy of each other and have not a clue!

So how do we combat this? The answers to these complex dilemmas are often simple. Don’t be mad at how simple it sounds. Being grateful daily combats being unthankful and diminishes pride. Every day you have to actively put your energy into yourself and not into others. Do not wake up and check your phone, you are giving away your power like candy, and I know that it is not that cheap to you. Put your energy into your gratitude. Be thankful that you could wake up in a soft bed with enough covers to keep you warm. Be grateful that you can have a meal in the morning without a doubt in your mind. Thankful for a car that can get you places. Don’t get lost by keeping up the jones!

We don’t know and shouldn’t care how people get to the point where they cant post highlights. We don’t know how hard they had to work or what they had to sacrifice to be where they are. Let us not be salty, let us keep the sodium levels low and appreciate. Be appreciative that they are working hard and showing how there are opportunities still for you to take over the world! Be encouraged by others success, not the opposite.
