Amazon Lightsail is light on Service

Testing has shown that the service can’t cope with demand and will likely fail if you start using resources beyond 10% CPU usage. If your websites ever get popular and you need to use more resources then you will find it going down. The problem is developing on a server could easily cause you to reach these limits, really slowing down the WordPress admin experience as well as many other popular tools that require resources at peak times.

Disk speeds are also slow compared to other providers when a chill set in from hearing complaints that the service suffers from network delays. We began wondering what on earth Amazon? It’s not what we expected and seems to be a dumping ground to use up old hardware and available t2.micro instances.

Amazon Lightsail is comparable to a t2.micro instance from AWS but may be more restricted in it’s performance. We haven’t compared them together but performance is a lot slower than other VPS providers (even GoDaddy!) so we recommend you sail clear of this iceberg and pick another provider such as Digital Ocean, Vultr, Linode…
