The Rise of Sippur

Sippur was originally an Iru-Saurian kingdom dating to the earliest ages of the creation. The first kings, such as Tud the Banded, were contemporaries of Ayes in Kamun. All were minor expansionist rulers who helped advance the Sippurites into the Interstellar Age, subsequently leading to the export of Sippurite language and culture to other star systems. They were collectively known as descendants of Gunda and the Iru Syys, once called the greatest of the second called “Xzwaxud” or “Shalen.”

In the Second Age of Kamun, the Sippurites visited Gaya and installed a remote outpost designed to enslave its native populace in defiance of the Akanu (primordial god) Kublakal, who had set aside the world for himself after the fall of Ozun and the Second Great War. Kublakal communed with the Sdu lord Guuerdur, inspiring him to intervene the citadel Qyord was constructed on the outer rim of Elysia to guard the region. With supply lines cut off, the Sippurite outpost was eventually abandoned although it had been repurposed by many beings visiting Gaya over the millennia.

Tud the Banded, one of the earliest known rulers of Sippurite Space

After the legendary expansion of the Sdu Empire, the Sippurite kings became subjects of Xteru the Great, who ruled over them via a rigid caste system that was easily adopted by Sippur due to its compatibility with their own stern societal norms. As an unplanned consequence, Sdu facilitated the emergence of Sippurite homogeneousness, and in the following centuries their influence permeated nearly every region of the empire. The “Kindes Way” (or “Ysillks” Sippurite) became synonymous with a people imitating Sippurite traditions and culture. Much later, the noble classes of Sippur claimed the divine right to rule over other populaces and subordinates whom Sippur had conquered, giving them the authority to set forth mandates that would have previously been met with fierce resistance.

After the collapse of the Sdu Empire, its vassal states were forced to forge a new path of self-governance. Civil war, energy shortages, and the degradation of communications (such as sub-space transitional emanations) immediately impacted and later proved to be devastating to the realm of Sippur. Several of its most outer colonies in Alessa formed an alliance with Lulzat, a non-Sippurite planet state and longtime rival of the Sippur Empire. Fourteen years after the alliance’s former declaration, the planet of Malgikz also joined them, leading to widespread revolt as many Sippurites refused to be vassals of Lulzat and desired to see an end to their aggressions.

The first great king of Sippur was Ordumash (also known as Oys and Purmedonsit) of Orma. By most accounts he had been a cook in the royal palace of Notaskin, who tired of the squabbling between the remaining royal family members with various claims to the throne. The most prominent claimant was Ragashtingur, a third cousin of the former lord Barronoksud of Notaskin, whose family had ruled much of Sippur as regent for Sdu. During a fierce debate between the royal family and palace officials, Ordumash entered the chamber and slew Ragashtingur by cleaving him in two with a long cooking knife. He then looked to the guards and ordered them to slay the remaining members of the royal families and all high ranking officials. After a moment of hesitation and shock over Odumash’s deed, the palace guard turned on their rulers and struck them down, sparing only the family of Himgasknokas due to their notable kindness to the people of Sippur. Ordumash then seized the crown and proclaimed himself King of Sippur, claiming dominion over all Sippurite and non-Sippurite planet states that had traditionally fallen within Sippur’s borders and sphere of influence.

Ordumash was immediately met with resistance. Within days of his declaration he was forced to respond to attacks from the strongest of the remaining royal houses, most notably Songud and Bosaliskil, both of whom had made alliances with the other houses to stop Ordumash from mobilizing his forces against their home worlds.

The Royal Fleet of Orma under the command of Ordumash

But Ordumash was able to rally enough support against the royals by exposing their secret ties with the Lulzati. He assembled a fleet of loyalists and forced the royal houses into abdication by persuading a number of native Sippurites into attacking capital cities and destroying their starports. Confronted with the choice between fealty towards Ordumash or war and subjection to Lulzat, most all Sippurites submitted to Ordumash’s authority after he promised to publically execute the most loathsome royal house members.
